Why Len Hutton deserves Pudsey mural honour over Leeds United legends – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Ralph W Middlebrook, Woodlands Park Road, Pudsey.

I HAVE no problem with a mural overlooking Pudsey Market Place and indeed all three suggested footballers – Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter and Trevor Cherry – are top drawer.

However, as Pudsey is world renowned for cricket and cricketers, I would suggest that a mural of Herbert Sutcliffe and Sir Len Hutton, both world class cricketers, would, I believe, be far more appropriate.

I am not aware that the three footballers have any particular connection with our town, but both Sutcliffe and Hutton were feted with a civic reception on the balcony which overlooks the Market Place in front of at least a 1,000 townsfolk upon returning from successful tours of Australia. I was not present at Herbert Sutcliffe’s reception but Sir Leonard’s event was in front of jam-packed crowd, me included.

IF I painted something on a building or other structure then I would rightly be prosecuted. Why therefore is the so-called artist Banksy allowed to deface various places with apparent immunity?

His latest ‘artwork’ in Bristol (The Yorkshire Post, December 12) is yet another case in point. However, the house owners may not agree if it enhances the value of their property!
