Yorkshire’s great fuel rip-off over gallons and litres – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: David H Rhodes, Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York.

IMPERIAL measurements can still, in my opinion, have their benefits.

Near to where I live there are two garages approximately 800 yards apart.

One is selling petrol at 7p per litre more than the other. If this variance is converted into the price per gallon, then the difference will be 31.5p per gallon.

If by law each petrol station had to clearly state its price per gallon (as well as per litre), then I think it would be an eye opener and people would vote with their feet unless the differential was then radically reduced. I appreciate that petrol stations in remote country locations will have different cost factors to
take in to account, but 800 yards?

IF you want a reason to a bit more cheerful, consider fuel prices. What we pay up here is up to 20p per litre cheaper than the standard price down south.

For once, we’re getting the better of the price differential – but it still does not justify the extent to which Yorkshire rural areas are penalised despite all the good intentions of successive Tory governments.
