Otley run chase kept in check by Ilkley’s Dover

With the rain cutting a swathe through matches, the hunt for bonus points became the goal and Beckwithshaw managed to edge a little closer to catching leaders Otley and retaining their title.

Otley’s match at Ilkley was restricted to 27 overs each but finished.

The home side set a target of 143 with Jonathan Hughes hitting 44. Paul Dover bowled a tight spell to take 2-14 and Otley were four runs short of victory at the close and had added only four points to their total.

Second-placed Burley were also thwarted in a tight finish against Bilton. Vic Craven (62) and Odge Davey (54) steered Bilton to 197-4 and despite some stirring batting from the lower order, notably Danny Bryan (71), Burley were dismissed for 192. Richard Spittlehouse took 4-36 and a decisive final run-out.

So Burley had to be satisfied with five bonus points, two fewer than Beckwithshaw managed against Collingham in a game that was washed out early in the second innings. Ross Sedgeley (58) top scored in Beckwithshaw’s 178-9 with Steve Booth taking 5-46.

Kirkstall had a frustrating afternoon, missing victory over Pool by one wicket thanks to a defiant 32 not out from No 7 Richard Carlton. Ben Platt took 5-52 in the home side’s 201-9 with Tom Webb picking up 5-20 as Pool stumbled to 77-9.

Josh Hobson took five wickets as Steeton were restricted to 130-9 but Rawdon’s chase ended on 77-0 due to a downpour.

Brian Jackson (61) top scored in Guiseley’s 180-7 but they were thwarted by rain, one wicket short of beating Ben Rhydding.

Nick Robinson’s undefeated 122 was the highlight as Follifoot took 12 points against Green Lane’s five.
