‘Outdoor classroom’ tribute to caretaker

STAFF, pupils and parents held a special dedication ceremony yesterday for a new “outdoor classroom” created in memory of a former school caretaker.

The space at Hatfield Travis CofE nursery and infant school has been dedicated to Bob Riley who was site manager at the school from 2004 until 2009.

It includes a wooden pagoda, which teachers said would enable pupils to access the outside curriculum, including lessons about the world, science, the environment, plants and gardening.

The outdoor classroom will also be used for story-writing and children’s performances.

Headteacher Liz Hallett, said: “Bob took great pride in his work and was much loved and respected by all the children, parents and staff here, as well as having been a wonderful and valued member of the Travis School team.

“We’re all delighted that the new wooden outdoor classroom will be a lasting tribute to his contribution to the children of the school.”

Doncaster Council’s schools spokesman, Andre Milner, added: “This new and valuable facility is a wonderful dedication that I’m sure will bring lots of pleasure and fun to children, staff and families.”
