Owner hoping crisp sandwiches can be flavour of month (VIDEO)

A Yorkshire businessman is hoping to make history by opening England’s first crisp sandwich shop.

Mark Pearson, 42, is launching his first shop dedicated to his favourite type of sandwich in Keighley today.

Mr Pearson, whose favourite crisps are Roast Beef Monster Munch, hopes his shop, Mr Crisp, can follow in the footsteps of Simply Crispy, which opened in Belfast in January. “I have always had an idea to launch a crisp sandwich shop, said Mr Pearson, who also runs a photography company.

“When I saw the one launch in Belfast, I thought the only way I can find out if a crisp sandwich shop can succeed over here is by giving it a go myself. I sat on the idea for six months, working on sourcing which crisps and flavours to have and doing some market research. Now I feel the time is now or never. I could either sit on the fence and get left behind or go and take a chance.”

Mr Pearson first shared his proposal on social media with users in local groups and pages.

He was so overwhelmed by the positive response that he was confident this type of shop would have a place in the market.

The shop now stocks over 50 varieties of crisps, which can be eaten in white or brown bread, teacakes and baguettes.

Mr Pearson is also offering customers the option of adding something extra to their crisp sandwich, including tomato ketchup, salad cream, peanut butter, jam and even marshmallow.

He said: “The feedback has been really positive. People are interested in having the option of a different kind of sandwich.

“We all have our own likes and dislikes; some of us even have strange requests when it comes to what we eat and I hope to cater for them by offering something different.

“I really like peanut butter, but finding anyone in the area who actually puts it on a sandwich is almost impossible.

“We live in a time where people want things quickly, especially in the business world, and a crisp sandwich certainly offers them that and a wide selection of flavours that you would struggle to find in any other sandwich.”

Mr Pearson has high hopes for Mr Crisp as a brand and is already looking at opening two other shops by the end of this year.

He is also continuing to
add new flavours and crisp manufacturers to his ever-growing menu.

He will hope to outlast Simply Crispy in Belfast, which closed this month six months after opening, though it was always intended to be a temporary venue.
