Paris inspires students as they show off designs on the catwalk

STUDENTS from York College paraded their creations on the catwalk yesterday after seeking inspiration from the world capital of fashion.

More than 30 students were involved in the show at York Racecourse which was staged as a finale to their National Diploma and foundation degree fashion courses.

Many of the designs sought inspiration from a trip to Paris which the students visited earlier this year.

First-year foundation degree students exhibited their mini spring and summer collections, which have been created with the Noa Noa store in the city's Low Petergate. Students in their second year of the foundation degree presented a project comparing designer fashion with high street trends as well as their final collections.

Marks & Spencer sponsored a project to design jackets by students in the final year of their National Diploma studies.

York College fashion tutor Marie Neal-Smith, said: "The fashion students have worked extremely hard again this year and produced varied collections."

York College, which moved to new 60m premises in September 2007, has 3,500 full-time students and 9,000 part-time students and provides education and training to 3,000 employers across the region.
