Parkinson’s backing for home town’s baby appeal

TV inquisitor Sir Michael Parkinson has backed a £1 million appeal for a new special baby care unit in his home town.

Sir Michael introduces a campaign video explaining the value of the unit at Barnsley Hospital where the Tiny Hearts Appeal has been launched.

The new unit will provide improved standards of care for newborn babies.

New state-of-the-art equipment will be installed and the unit will move from its existing location to be on the same floor as the Barnsley Birthing Centre.

Stephen Wragg, chairman of Barnsley Hospital, said: “We are delighted and honoured that Sir Michael has lent his help to the Tiny Hearts Appeal. He is a national treasure and it’s great to have someone so high profile putting his weight behind the campaign.

“The new unit will make a massive difference to the lives of Barnsley’s special care babies and their families.”

Sir Michael, 79, was born in Cudworth and started his career working for local newspapers before going on to become a leading TV personality.
