Pay day hopes inhospitals strike

Striking South African public employees have been offered a higher pay deal to end a dispute which has crippled hospitals, schools and courts across the country.

The government said it was increasing its offer from 7 to 7.5 per cent with a better housing allowance. The strikers want 8.6 per cent.

The government said unions were given time to put the proposal to members, and more meetings were set for today.
