A PROBATIONARY police officer whose neck was slashed by a man with a craft knife in a busy shopping street has been discharged from hospital and is expected to make a "full recovery".

Pc Paul Madden, 23, and support officer Piotr Dolata, 27, were checking bus fares when they were attacked in Ealing, west London, last Wednesday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said Pc Madden, who suffered serious injuries to his neck, was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

"He will continue to receive ongoing hospital treatment but is expected to make a full recovery," the spokesman said.

"Paul and his family would like to thank everybody for their concern and good wishes, as well as the Metropolitan Police Service for the support it has provided through this difficult time."

Mr Dolata suffered less serious injuries and was released from hospital on the day of the attack.

John Onyenaychi, 30, appeared before magistrates on Friday charged with two counts of attempted murder and attacking a third officer.

Handcuffed and surrounded by 10 police officers, Onyenaychi was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on March 25.
