Peace dividend for festival-goers

DETAILS were revealed yesterday of the ninth annual free Peace in the Park festival, which will be held at Sheffield’s Ponderosa park, in Netherthorpe, this June.

As well as activities such as live music, entertainment, stalls and refreshments, this year the Peace Museum in Bradford has donated a selection of exhibits focused on peace movements, which will be on display in the festival’s new Peace Platform tent.

The dance tent will also be bigger this year, family workshops will take place on the community stage, and acts including Bell Hagg Orkestar and King Capisce have already been confirmed for the main stage.

Treatments such as yoga, Chinese massage, Indian head massage and reflexology, meanwhile, will be offered in the healing area.

Peace in the Park secretary Barney Harris said yesterday: “If you want to experience Sheffield at its best then come to Peace in the Park.

“It’s an amazing phenomenon which survives through the good people of Sheffield donating their time and skills to realise the common goal of promoting peace in a fun and accessible way.”

The festival runs from noon to 8pm on Saturday, June 9.
