Pensioner dies aftercollision with cyclist

A pensioner has died after being injured in an accident with a cyclist in Ampleforth.

Tragedy struck at about 4.30pm on Tuesday when the 72-year-old man was crossing Station Road. He suffered serious head injuries in a collision with a cyclist and was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he later died. The cyclist, a 42-year-old man from York, was also seriously injured in the collision.
