Pensioner dies and two children badly hurt in crash

A PENSIONER died and six people - including two children - are seriously ill in hospital after a head-on collision between two cars in Bradford.

The accident happened when a Suzuki Alto and a Vauxhall Vectra collided close to the Howarth Road junction in Bradford at 2.11pm on Sunday.

The pensioner was one of four passengers, including two children, in the Suzuki, which was being driven by a man in his 30's.

The driver was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he is fighting for his life.

The children, aged eight and four, and a woman who was also a passenger, were rushed to Bradford Royal Infirmary having been badly hurt.

The pensioner was declared dead at the scene.

Two young men in the Vauxhall were also taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Aged 22 and 18, they were driving to Bradford from Bingley when the accident happened.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said it was not yet known how badly hurt the people in hospital were.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
