Brickyard Bakery Guisborough: Yorkshire bakery goes viral after offering to use bread ovens to heat lounge for cold residents

A bakery in North Yorkshire has gone viral after the owners offered to use heat generated by the bread ovens to keep residents warm in the lounge.

Staff at Brickyard Bakery in Guisborough said the cost of living crisis was “weighing heavily” on their minds.

The oven at the bakery produces a “tremendous amount of heat”, a viral post said.

The academy above the bakery has “lovely warmth” from the ovens according to staff.

So, they have decided to open up the lounge area to residents every week day from September 15 to ensure nobody goes cold.

The post read: “Anyone can go and sit in the warm lounge for a few hours, make a cuppa, read a book, newspaper, sit in comfort, totally free.

"You don't have to buy anything, just come and keep warm on us.”

The post has been shared more than 7,000 times in just a few days by proud residents of the town.

"What an amazing gesture”, one said.
