North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to a fire which had spread to a stable and garage after spreading from an unattended bonfire.

Crews from Bedale, Masham, Richmond, Ripon, Colburn and Lofthouse were all sent to the scene in Snape at around 3pm on Sunday, August 2.

Bedale Fire Station posted on Facebook to say the crews had to take quick action to ensure the fire didn't spread to the rest of the house.

It said: "Needing hose reels to attack the fire and a 45mm branch as covering jet fed and with no hydrant nearby, access to water was a concern from the start.

"The crew ‘made pumps five’ for water and also supplemented supply from a children’s paddling pool using our light portable pump (LPP) until oncoming fire engines arrived.

"Our actions ensured we did not run out of water and prevented further fire spread to the rest of the house."

The fire service said the cause of the fire was thought to be a bonfire which had been left unattended. Damage was also caused to a car and household items which were in the garage, while the roof of an annex was also destroyed.
