First Bus update on incident after bus skids on black ice and smashes through garden wall

Mandy Rutter, who lives in Bingley, heard a loud bang shortly after waking up this morning.

Her partner went to the door, looked outside and discovered a large single decker First Bus had crashed through her garden wall.

Mandy, speaking exclusively to the Yorkshire Evening Post, said: "I was sat downstairs this morning and I just heard a loud bang.

"I said to my partner my car has probably been hit .

"He went to the door, looked outside, and said no, there is a bus in your garden.

"I thought 'right, I have been expecting that'."

The bus - which is currently teetering on the edge of Mandy's garden - has 'no service' showing on an LED screen.

A spokesperson for First West Yorkshire said the 615 service bus was involved in the incident.

The crash was caused by black ice on the road.

No passengers were onboard the bus at the time of the incident, it was confirmed.

First Bus said the driver "acted calmly and professionally" in the situation and was not injured.

The company is in the process of recovering the vehicle.

The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our 615 service was involved in an incident in Bingley this morning (3rd January 2021) which was caused by black ice on the road.

“There were no passengers onboard and our driver, who acted calmly and professionally in the situation, was uninjured. We are now in the process of recovering the vehicle.”
