The Yorkshire Swan Hospital described the sighting as the 'greatest reward'.

They said: "It’s the greatest reward for us when this happens.

"We nursed this swan back to health nearly a decade ago, when his neck was badly damaged by an overhead electricity cable at Ferrybridge Power Station.

"He was sighted again yesterday - ten years on - with a mate and four cygnets, by our volunteers in South Yorkshire.

"Thanks to his metal leg ring number, we can identify him as the same bird."
