RNLI rescue family dog after he falls off a cliff near Filey

Springer spaniel Sammy was on a walk near Filey Brigg when he fell from the clifftop at Chimney Hole just after 6.30pm on Thursday evening.

He survived the fall and appeared relatively unharmed, so Filey RNLI were contacted and sent their inshore lifeboat to rescue the stricken pet.

Crew members Gary Wilson, Fraser Haddington and Dougie Ward approached by sea and could see Sammy running around the rocks at the base of the cliff. They landed close to the shore and managed to coax him into the boat.

Sammy was reunited with his grateful owners at Coble Landing in Filey, and the crew were cheered on by a crowd who had gathered to watch their arrival.

Sammy was uninjured despite his ordeal.

RNLI Filey press officer John Ward said: “It was Sammy’s lucky day. He did well to survive the fall relatively unharmed. Many thanks to the crew for an excellent job and all the other RNLI personnel who turned out.”
