"He actively looks for opportunities for arduous challenges and shows high levels of commitment in executing them.”

Sgt Clarke is the first to be awarded the York Medal since it was bestowed on the late Captain Sir Tom Moore last year in recognition of his NHS fundraising efforts.

A probationary firefighter in civilian life, his experiences in the Army Reserves have taken Sergeant Clarke overseas to Denmark, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Brigadier Jackson said: “Sergeant Clarke was an invaluable asset on Exercise VIKING STAR in Denmark. He outshone his peers, providing diligent administrative support to the Company Sergeant Major and moral support to all troops.”
