Two people rescued after fire breaks out in living room of Yorkshire home

Two people were rescued from their home after a fire broke out in the living room overnight.

Crews from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) were called to Castle Villas in Pontefract shortly befre 11pm last night (Dec 1). Firefighters from Pontefract, Castleford and Normanton all attended the blaze and eventually led the two occupants to safety, and passed them into the hands of Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

A statement from WYFRS said: “Call received reporting house fire with persons trapped inside. Fire survival guidance was issued by the fire service to the occupiers of the property until crews arrived on scene. The fire was located in the downstairs living room and was extinguished using two breathing apparatus sets and one large jet. Two occupiers were led to safety by fire fighters and were placed in the care of the ambulance service.”

The incident came just a few hours after crews in Halifax were called to another fire where it was thought someone was trapped. After arriving at Moorside Gardens at around 6.25pm, crews from Halifax, Fairweather Green and Illingworth discovered there was actually no one inside. The blaze was started by a pan of oil which had been left unattended.

Incident proved to be no persons involved.”
