Yorkshire’s Ideal Carehomes offer ‘new lease of life’

The decision to move into care can be difficult and emotional for the whole family, and never more so than now, during the festive season and after an unprecedented year.

However, there are many features throughout Ideal Carehomes’ Yorkshire homes that help to make that decision so much easier.

One current resident, 90-year-old Jean Smith, believes that moving to an Ideal home has given her a new lease of life.

In recent years Jean has needed a little more help to do the things she enjoys and eventually decided to look into care options.

“I chose to move into an Ideal home on a temporary basis at first to see how I liked it,” she says. “It turns out that I love everything about the home; the staff, activities and delicious food, so I have made the decision to become a permanent resident.

“I couldn’t be happier and I feel like I have my freedom back.”

We have come to expect first-class facilities in modern care home settings – large bedrooms and en-suites are the norm, but Ideal care homes in Yorkshire are going one step further by providing residents with aspirational lifestyle choices and person-centred care in beautiful and functional surroundings.

The care teams create tailor-made activity schedules that incorporate residents’ favourite hobbies and interests, including musical afternoons in the cinema room, pamper days including manicures and hairdressing in the onsite beauty parlour and even flower arranging which Jean particularly enjoys.

Jean continued: “I am already meeting people and creating new friendships as we all enjoy the activities together.”

All Ideal care homes lend themselves well to current guidelines that we are now used to in our day-to-day lives. From ultra-wide corridors to comfort cooling systems which use fresh air rather than recirculated air, everything is future-proofed to ensure the continued wellbeing of residents and staff.

Dedicated social rooms mean that visits from loved ones are safe and comfortable and with access to the latest technology for video calls, it’s simple to keep in touch at any time.

A home from home, Jean moved in on July 1 and has since celebrated her milestone 90th birthday and is looking forward to Christmas.

She added: “Despite moving into a care home at such an uncertain time, the staff and the procedures in place to keep me safe have been meticulous and I cannot fault them.

“If anybody else is looking into care, I would say try it out for yourself and follow your gut instincts. I know I couldn’t find anywhere better and I feel very settled here.”

Ideal Carehomes director Stacey Linn is committed to upholding the Ideal Carehomes ethos of person-centred care and supporting residents to remain independent throughout their 22 homes.

She said: “This year has definitely had its challenges but I am so proud of the Ideal Carehomes team and their unfaltering care and dedication to our residents.

“We have always had faith that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and being able to welcome visitors back as well as the availability of a vaccine has ensured a more positive end to the year.

“However, we do understand that it is a strange time to be looking for care but we are here, we are open and we are ready to support families every step of the way.

“It’s wonderful to see how well Jean has settled in her new home and I wish her, all our Ideal Carehomes staff and residents as well as the wider communities a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
