Picnic for four helps highlight area's top tourist attractions

TOURISM chiefs have teamed up with local hoteliers to provide a picnic and a family ticket to some of East Yorkshire's leading attractions.

The picnic for four comes in a hamper in a branded cool bag and can be picked up at three outlets – Tickton Grange, Wolds Village and Field House Farm Cottages, which have created their own menus, using locally-sourced food.

The 35 price includes a visit to one of seven attractions – Stewart's Burnby Hall & Gardens, Sewerby Hall, Fort Paull, RAF Holmpton, Cruckley Animal Farm, Burton Constable Hall and Burton Agnes Hall.

Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) is into the second year of a three-year plan to increase numbers of visitors to the Yorkshire Wolds.

Chief executive Janet Reuben said: "East Yorkshire is a fabulous destination for a picnic – its superb local produce, spectacular scenery and fascinating attractions are the perfect ingredients for a great day out.

"Pick up a picnic makes arranging a day out in this region so easy and is a good example of local businesses working together to attract visitors to this region."

According to the most recent statistics, tourism was worth 402m to the local economy.

VHEY has launched new cycling routes at the cost of 200,000 to try and entice families as well as leisure cyclists. However, a 380,000 project to create a sculpture trail along the Wolds Way has proved more controversial.

A guide lists picnic spots across the region and is available online and in tourist information centres in East Yorkshire. The pick up a picnic experience can be booked online at www.realyorkshire.co.uk or by calling 01482 486500.
