Picture perfect celebrations

A CRAFT centre that has helped put Yorkshire artists in the frame is celebrating its 30th birthday.

The Craft Centre and Design Gallery in Leeds, which was set up in 1982, has gone from a small basement gallery to one of the leading craft centres in the country. Nestled beneath the City Art Gallery, where assistant manager Caroline Dennis is seen above looking at Pathwwa, a glass artwork by Helen Slater, it has showcased tens of thousands of designers from graduates to established makers and hosted hundreds of exhibitions.

Director Hayley Walker said: “It has been an honour to have displayed work from some of the finest craftspeople. It was once a hidden gem but is now firmly on the map.”
