PITCHing in: Harvey helps get ready for Countryside Live weekend

Organisers of this year’s show at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate are hoping for a record-breaking event, with more visitors and entries than ever before. The autumn rural showcase, now in its eighth year, has attracted more than 10,000 people for the past two years.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has firmly established the two-day event at the end of the country show calendar as a younger sibling to the Great Yorkshire Show.

Visitors this year will be able to enjoy rag rugging, willow weaving and a sausage-making contest. Other attractions include an X Factor-style equine and show jumping competition judged by Olympic rider Graham Fletcher, have-a-go archery, and alpaca demonstrations.

There is also the Country Crafts Experience for children, young farmers’ competitions and a flowers, fruit, and vegetable show. The event principally takes place indoors at the Harrogate showground today and tomorrow.
