Places still available on weight-loss sessions

PLACES are still available on a programme for overweight children and their families due to begin in Rotherham later this month.

Carnegie Club is a free 12-week course aimed at overweight and obese children aged between eight and 17, which aims to encourage them to eat more healthily and increase their physical activity.

Natalie Dunn, healthy living programme manager at DC Leisure, which is running the clubs on behalf of Carnegie Weight Management, said: "Members who have just completed the latest Carnegie Club have had huge success, making significant lifestyle and behaviour changes in an attempt to achieve a healthy weight.

"The clubs run in the evening and at weekends and offer a practical and realistic approach to weight loss, whilst having fun. The ratio is one member of staff to every seven children, guaranteeing everyone receives dedicated, individual support.

"Club members will get to take part in lots of physical activity, lifestyle and social activity."

Courses will begin on Monday, April 19, at Rotherham Leisure Centre, on Tuesday, April 20, at Aston Leisure Centre and on Wednesday, April 21, at Maltby Leisure Centre. Sessions all run from 5pm to 7pm.

Three-and-a-half-hour-long club sessions will then run at Rotherham Leisure Centre each Monday at 4.30pm, on Saturdays at 9am and on Sundays at 10am.

The course in Aston will run each Tuesday at 4.30pm and the course in Maltby will run on Wednesdays at 4.30pm.

One in three children and 60 per cent of adults in Rotherham are overweight or obese and current predictions show that by 2050 a staggering 90 per cent of people in the town will be overweight.
