Player held in 'suspicious betting' probe

Snooker player Stephen Lee, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was arrested following an investigation into suspicious betting patterns, said police.

West Midlands Police confirmed: "A 35-year-old man from Wiltshire was arrested...on suspicion of cheating."

A spokesman for World Snooker, the sport's governing body, said it would assist the Gambling Commission's investigation and then hold its own inquiry.

"Neither the commission nor the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association will release information surrounding a betting matter while an investigation is ongoing," he said.
