Police hunt for dog-theft accused

Police are appealing for help to trace a man who failed to turn up at court in connection with the death of a dog in Cleckheaton.

Gary Dennis Marshman, 26, of Buttershaw, is charged with the theft of a dog outside a supermarket in Northgate on January 16, 2009. The body of the dog was discovered two days later in a stream at the Mann Dam.

Marshman, who is also known to use the surnames of Smith or Gale, failed to appear before Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates' Court on March 24 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Inspector Tim Holland, of Spenborough Neighbourhoood Policing Team, said they had been trying to find Marshman. "We do still believe him to be in the Bradford area and it is important we find him so he can appear before the courts."
