Mrs Wright’s death is being treated as suspicious and a murder investigation is under way.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said a post-mortem examination was ‘ongoing,’ but it is understood Mrs Wright had sustained no ‘physical’ injuries.

A 47-year-old man who was initially arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Floral tributes have been left on the driveway of the Shiregreen home.

One neighbour described the emergency service response on Saturday evening and spoke of being awoken late at night by a detective carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

She said: “Me and my husband were watching TV and I got up to fetch a drink about 8.10pm and the whole street was awash with emergency services.

“I saw a CSI van, police cars, an ambulance and police officers walking around the road.

“We went to bed and were awoken by a detective. He was asking us if we’d seen anything suspicious but we’d not seen anything. It’s not been too good for the area at the minute with the shooting nearby a few weeks ago.

“I used to see the woman coming and going but I didn’t know her. It’s terrible. My heart goes out to her relatives.”

Another neighbour, who has lived on Nethershire Lane for 34 years, said: “She kept herself to herself but she would always say hello over the back fence. She’s lived there for 15 years and was always very pleasant to me. It’s come as an awful shock, it’s terrible to hear.”

Sithee Kotecha, aged 24, lives a couple of doors down from the home where the victim was found.

She said: “I didn’t have much to do with her. I didn’t know her that well but she was always smiling and always said hello to you – she was friendly. It’s a terrible tragedy - you don’t really expect something like this to happen. It’s awful.

“My thoughts go out to her family and friends.”
