Police name Polish couple whose bodies were discovered in bedsit

Detectives have named a Polish couple whose bodies were found in a Bradford bedsit earlier this week.

The body of Bartlomiej Jakub Bozek, who was 33, was discovered hanging in the flat, while that of his girlfriend, Karolina Wasilewski, was later discovered wrapped in plastic bags under a bed.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the 28-year-old woman's death.

Mr Bozek was also known as "Bart". Officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with their deaths, but want to trace anyone who may have seen either of the pair in the days leading up to the discovery of their bodies.

Detective Superintendent Sukhbir Singh, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), who is leading the investigation, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen either Karolina or Bartlomiej since the Christmas and New Year period up to and including January 17, because they may have vital information which can assist us.

"So far we know that Bartlomiej was last seen alive on Thursday, January 6, but the last known sighting of Karolina is believed to be on New Year's Day.

"Anyone who has seen either Bartlomiej or Karolina in the

days leading up to the 17th is urged to contact officers as soon

as possible so we can piece together their last movements and

build a clearer picture of their lives."

Officers are particularly keen to speak to members of Bradford's Polish community.

Det Supt Singh said: "We know that both Bartlomiej and Karolina had links with the Polish community in Bradford so it's very likely that the information they have could be particularly useful to our enquiries.

"Anyone who is concerned about language barriers can contact officers and make an appointment to speak to us alongside our Polish translator."

Mr Bozek is known to have lived in the Tarnow area of southern Poland, near to Krakow, and his girlfriend was originally from the Belchatow area.

Officers were called to the flat in Hallfield Road, where Ms Wasilewski was the tenant, shortly before 9pm on Monday, January 17.

Emergency services were alerted after a rent collector went to the house and used his keys to get inside because the rent was overdue.

After discovering Mr Bozek hanging inside the entrance to the flat, the collector alerted his uncle – the landlord of the property – and police and paramedics were called in.
