Police raids on notorious gang estate

Senior officers secured 12 so-called “gang injunctions” against people living in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield earlier this month after a series of shootings and other gang-related incidents. They said that two of the 21 people arrested during Wednesday’s operation had been detained because they had broken the terms of their injunction, which include curfews and restrictions on the use of mobile phones.

The Parson Cross gang injunctions are the first of their kind to be used in Yorkshire, and were sparked after recent gun incidents, including one in which a house was fired upon, left residents in the area shaken. Local probation chiefs have also declared the estate a “no-go area” for its officers. This week’s operation began outside Chaucer School in Wordsworth Avenue, and included raids, patrols, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operations targeting vehicles that are known to be linked to criminal activity.
