Police station bought up for revamp

The next phase of the plan involves the council buying police properties on Bond Terrace and Wood Street police station, to enable the development to progress.

Improvements have already been made to the public spaces around the war memorial and County Hall, as well as significant changes to roads and pedestrian facilities.

Yesterday Councillor Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, said: “Wakefield’s Civic Quarter is an important gateway to the city centre and its regeneration will help restore and transform civic buildings, encourage the creation of high quality new development and bring employment opportunities to the area.

“By acquiring these key buildings we are moving forward with these plans to restore this important and historic part of the city.”

Other buildings identified in the regeneration plans to be redeveloped over the next five years include Rishworth Street multi-storey car park, Old Crown Court, Old Museum and the West Yorkshire Archives buildings.
