Police in ‘stay safe’ appeal to visitors at weekend festival
The two-day event will be held today and tomorrow at various venues in Sheffield’s Don Valley, including the Don Valley Stadium, the English Institution of Sport and Don Valley Bowl.
Musical performances will come from acts including Toots and The Maytals, Lightning Seeds, Dodgy, Noisettes, Stooshe and Lemar. Meanwhile, numerous sports- related activities will be on offer, with two pop-up boxing rings, an inflatable hockey pitch and crazy golf.

Hide AdThere will also be workshops taking place in sports including rugby league, athletics, basketball, wheelchair basketball, tennis, judo, gymnastics, Zumba, dancing, climbing and football, while those who are feeling less active can watch live Olympic action on a big screen.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “High volumes of people, of all ages, are expected to attend the event over the weekend.
“Police and partners are working together to help make the festival enjoyable for everyone and to maintain a safe environment for those attending, and for people living in the surrounding areas.
“For those who are attending the event, police are advising them to be extra vigilant in relation to their personal property.

Hide Ad“We also want to remind anyone taking their car to the event to keep their vehicles secure and don’t leave any items on display.”
Chief Inspector Iain Chorlton added: “We anticipate it will be a very busy weekend, and our main aim is to ensure the safety of everyone attending.
“We want everyone who is going to the festival to have an enjoyable time in support of the event, and to take care of their personal possessions, drink sensibly and stay safe.”
Sheftival is a not-for-profit event, with proceeds from all ticket sales being ploughed back into providing cultural and sporting activities. Admission costs £10, although family tickets are available.
