Police support for distraught family of accountant last seen on riverbank

SPECIALLY trained police officers were yesterday providing support to the distraught relatives of a man who has gone missing in York.

Extensive searches have been carried out in the city since Chris Baker was last seen on Thursday.

A police spokesman yesterday renewed an appeal for information to find the 29-year-old accountant, who works at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The spokesman added: “Officers are continuing to support Mr Baker’s family at this very distressing time.”

Mr Baker was driving to work on Thursday when he abandoned his Renault Megane at the junction of Skeldergate Bridge and Tower Street at about 7.15am.

He gestured to a woman in the car behind before jumping over a wall into Tower Gardens on the banks of the River Ouse. He has not been seen since. Police are keeping an open mind but one possibility is he could have fallen into the river.

Mr Baker is white, 5ft 9in tall and slim with curly dark brown hair. He was wearing a striped work shirt when he was last seen.
