Authorities to share chief executive

TWO councils in north Derbyshire have announced a “ground-breaking partnership” which senior officers and councillors hope will help the authorities deal with Government-imposed spending cuts.

Bolsover and North East Derbyshire District Councils, will sign an official agreement next Tuesday which they said will pave the way for appointing a joint chief executive and senior managers.

The move will save about £1.5m each year, which the authorities hope will protect services and assist with plans to freeze council tax bills at their current levels.

North East Derbyshire Council leader Graham Baxter said: “This is a historic moment for Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. Both areas are facing unprecedented cuts to their Government grants, and this partnership will enable us to continue to support our communities by safeguarding the essential, high quality services that local people rely on.”

The authorities said last night that they already operate successful shared services across a number of areas, including procurement and IT.
