High Farm Country Park: Yorkshire holiday park plans to expand by creating more than 70 new pitches for static caravans

A holiday park in a village near Beverley could expand by 71 new pitches under plans lodged with East Riding Council.

An application submitted to East Riding Council has proposed expanding High Farm Country Park, in Routh, with new static caravans on an existing field off the A1035. Planning documents stated it would see the holiday park grow to a total of 510 plots but the expansion would include a separation buffer and tree planting to screen it.

No objections have been lodged against the plans but Leven Parish Council commented on the park’s last expansion approved in 2020 claiming more traffic could strain the already busy A1035. Plans from Edwardson Associates for the latest expansion propose building the new pitches south east of the current holiday park, by the A1035 near Routh’s village centre.

The park itself is next to the Heron Lakes Holiday Lodge Park. Plans stated the expansion would be accessed from the existing entrance to High Farm Country Park, in the A1035. Once in the park, guests staying in a static caravan in the expansion would drive through internal roads and each pitch would have one parking space.

The holiday park is around five miles north east of Beverley and features static caravans, glamping pods and touring pitches. It is on the site of a former sand and gravel quarry. Pat Ablett, chair of Leven Parish Council when the last expansion was approved in April 2020, said they feared more traffic could lead to accidents on the A1035.

The then chair said: “The road is a vital artery and there are quite often accidents on it. Traffic has to get re-routed when accidents happen. When the road is closed it affects travel to Beverley, York, White Cross and Hull. People also use it to get to work and college and it’s used by the emergency services. Caravans would be coming in and out of the site and using that road. It’s a major concern for the area.”

Leven and other local parish councils have been approached to comment by East Riding planning officers but they have not yet submitted responses.
