Public given say again after ward blunder

A NEW public consultation has had to be launched on plans to overhaul a Yorkshire city’s council ward boundaries after the original proposals were published using incorrect data.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England has re-opened the consultation until March 31 on new electoral arrangements for York Council. The commission published its final recommendations in November after a year-long review, but was alerted to an error.

The commission had included the University of York campus in a three-member Hull Road ward. Incorrect data meant voters in the Halifax College area would have remained in the single-member Fulford and Heslington ward. The final recommendations are due to be published on July 10, before new arrangements will come into effect at the local elections in 2015 as originally planned.
