Tory gets on career ladder

A NORTH Yorkshire MP has been handed a new Government job seven months after losing his previous role following the “Plebgate” affair.

Andrew Jones, the Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, said he was “surprised and honoured” to be made a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) in the Department of Health.

PPS jobs are unpaid, but mark the first step on the Ministerial career ladder.

Mr Jones was previously PPS to the former Tory chief whip, Andrew Mitchell, who resigned last October after being accused of calling a police officer a “pleb” outside the gates of Downing Street.
