Tunnel vision
The UK’s longest trunk road tunnel, which will relieve congestion at one of the country’s worst bottlenecks on the main road between London and Portsmouth, was officially opened by Transport Secretary Philip Hammond yesterday.
The 1.2 mile-long tunnel on the A3 at Hindhead in Surrey is part of a four-mile, £371m scheme that has taken four years to build.
