Yorkshire and Humber Ukip MEP Mike Hookem made the film called The Real Migrant Crisis while visiting Calais and Dunkirk in Northern France last summer and this spring. He was invited by a Yorkshire truck driver to follow his journey from England to France to capture the difficulties he faced from the migrants.

Mr Hookem said during filming he was threatened by people traffickers with a firearm at Dunkirk and he is also filmed scaling a fence to the Eurotunnel train track to highlight the lack of security last summer.

He has since returned to Calais to see what progress has been made on protecting the UK’s borders and is due to say that he still has major concerns.

A UKIP party spokesperson said: “Things have improved at the Eurotunnel but not at Calais port, and these issues are directly caused by EU policy. People say what’s happened in Calais is a southern problem but we are starting to see problems at Immingham and Tilbury too.”

The event in central London was attended by Mr Farage and was chaired by fellow Yorkshire and Humber Ukip MEP, the party’s employment spokeswoman Jane Collins.
