AN unemployed mental health worker chained himself to the railings outside Doncaster’s Mansion House in protest at Government spending cuts and welfare reforms.

Trevor Jones, 49, who lost his job six months ago, said: “I see these cuts, which are coming thick and fast, as an attack on some of the most vulnerable people in our society. It doesn’t affect the top tier, the CEOs paid millions or the Ministers with spare houses, never mind spare bedrooms, and we need to say enough is enough.

“I’m unemployed and disabled and I don’t know if I am ever going to get another job.”

Mr Jones’s protest was part of a day of action called “Bonfire of Austerity” by the campaign group the People’s Assembly. He said he had enjoyed a positive response from passers-by.
