Working women at record high

The number of women working in Yorkshire and the Humber is at an all-time high, with 1.2 million now in employment according to official figures.

Work and Pensions Minister, Esther McVey, said: “Creating jobs and getting people into employment are central to our economic plan to build a stronger, more competitive economy, so it is welcome news that Yorkshire and the Humber saw the number of women in work at the highest ever level this month at 1.2 million.

“Across Britain we’ve seen a record-breaking rise in employment over the last three months – the largest ever, so it’s clear that the Government’s long-term economic plan to get people off benefits and into work so they can secure their future is proving successful.”

Latest figures also show that the number of people claiming out-of-work benefits in Yorkshire & the Humber has fallen by more than 24,000 over the previous 12 months.

There are 5,500 fewer lone parents among the figures as the Government continues to provide more back-to-work support earlier in their claim.
