YP Letters: Prophecies of doom and dodgy figures no reason to stay in EU

I FIND it frightening that some people can be so gullible (The Yorkshire Post, Letters, May 3).

Mr Dods states he is voting to remain in the EU because George Osborne has stated that tax will rise by 8p. Mr Osborne can’t even get his predictions right three months in advance so he has no chance 14 years ahead.

IN his latest doom-laden scenario David Cameron, the de facto leader of the Remain campaign, warns us that war could break out on the Continent if the UK leaves the EU. So, according to Mr Cameron, Nato won’t work?

Odd, too, that he thinks the UK is so weak we won’t be able to get trade deals outside the EU, but so strong that our mere presence in Brussels prevents war.

DAVID Cameron is right to invoke history in his argument that Brexit would undermine European peace. After 1,000 years of war and beligerence, we have enjoyed 70 years of peace in Western Europe. In saying that Europe has changed, Boris Johnson epitomises the conceit of every generation that we have arrived. The truth is we are on a journey. We must learn from past mistakes or face the wrath of history.

WITH David Cameron (The Yorkshire Post, May 13) telling us that leaving the EU will cause war and pestilence, it now seems the PM has scraped the bottom of the barrel. If the British public vote to leave, perhaps the PM could be asked to leave 10 Downing Street, and the occupant of 11 Downing Street should follow suit and go get a job in the USA if they want to belong to a United States.

THE Scottish government has stated that Scotland has no intention of leaving the EU, yet there has been little debate on the possible effect of Scotland refusing to accept an exit vote and negotiating to remain in the EU by pursuing independence.

A decision to leave the EU could open a Pandora’s box.
