WITH regard to parts of the North “lagging behind on growth”, the close proximity of Bradford to Leeds has probably resulted in more losses for Bradford in recent years than any other factor.

Back in November, it was revealed that 924 full time tax office jobs would go at Victoria Street, Shipley; 632 at Centenary Court, and 358 at No1 Interchange, to be relocated to Leeds.

As if Leeds does not already have enough office jobs.

Will these jobs ever come back to Bradford?

Prior to the First World War, this was the richest city in Europe on the back of the wool trade and, with its superb city centre architecture it was once known as the “Florence of the North”.

So much of this heritage was destroyed before stone cleaning arrived and even after it was invented.

Anybody over retirement age who grew up and went to
school in the Bradford area
will remember a wealthier
city than Leeds, with nicer
shops and now, to cap it all,
we are supposed to be seen as part of a so-called “Leeds City Region”.

Any real Bradfordian
will tell you that Bradford is
not Leeds.
