MUCH is said about the EU keeping the peace in Europe and that we should be grateful for its existence.

Looking back on the two world wars, I have always been led to believe that they were initially “not our wars”, but that our involvement came about to oppose tyranny and subsequently to support the oppressed.

This came at great cost to Britain and Commonwealth in the form of loss of life but we did the right and decent thing.

Outside of the EU, I feel Britain would still do the honourable thing if called upon to do so, but I have doubts about any reciprocal action by the EU if any foreign nation impinged on our sovereignty.

IT is claimed that the EU is undemocratic. However, British governments have been voted in over the last 20 years with just one-third of the vote (and the support of only a quarter of eligible voters). That really is undemocratic!

Too many “quitters” offer empty jingoism rather than genuine debate.

JEREMY Corbyn and his followers have come out with the comment that voting leave could mean that workers could lose their rights in the event of a Brexit vote. Tell me Mr Corbyn, just which rights are these?

WHY does the Labour Party persist in stating its views as to how to run the country instead of concentrating on the issues involved in the EU in or out debate? Do they realise that this was not a General Election?

FOR me, Remain was by far the safer option. Problems, real or perceived within the European Union, can be addressed without our nation risking it’s future and standing in the world through an act of economic suicide.

There will be future opportunities to revisit our role in Europe, but I concluded that an irrevocable leave vote cannot be put right if things go badly wrong.

IF Brexit prevails, it will be arguable whether the ideals of a United Europe finally suffocated under its own bureaucracy or became drowned in the gravy.
