Poll Plea: Religious leaders urge voters to snub BNP

More than 70 religious leaders in South Yorkshire have made a public declaration urging people to use their votes to defeat the BNP.

They believe a high turnout on polling day will prevent candidates on extremist platforms from being elected.

The faith community leaders signed a statement which declares they speak with one voice against the "racist and fascist" policies of the BNP. They accuse the party of "using people's fears to stir up race hate and the demonisation of Muslims" while claiming to speak for Christians.
