The portrait of a Lady Mayoress

A RETIRED painter and decorator is to see his portrait of the outgoing Mayoress of Leeds hang at Leeds Civic Hall.

Coun Andrea McKenna and her husband Coun Jim McKennalast year became the first husband and wife team who were both serving councillors to hold the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress roles.

To mark this first Leeds Fine Artists decided to arrange for five of its members to have a sitting with the Lady Mayoress and paint her portrait. The winner was Ken Beaumont, 66, of Mirfield, who used soft pastels and is seen above with the Mayoress and his portrait, centre. He said: “There are some very talented artists in the Leeds group and I was very pleased just to have been invited to do a portrait of the Lady Mayoress. To have my work chosen is especially pleasing.”
