The post impressionist painter, who is among the world’s most famous artists, moved from his home country of Holland to France as his career as an artist developed.

He continued his studies in Paris, mixing with influential artists of the era, and the current exhibition focuses on the era until 1888, when his mental health became an increasing issue. After that, he suffered from periods of madness and was admitted to an asylum for treatment.

Despite appearing to make a recovery, he shot himself in 1890.
