Postcode Lottery win to see residents get share of £2m prize

RESIDENTS in a lucky part of central Hull are to get a share of £2m, if they are players in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The charity lottery said HU1 was the latest area to win the Postcode Millions draw, and players will find out how much their individual shares will be when a private cheque presentation is made in the area on Saturday, March 2.

Winners are being contacted to be told of their good fortune after landing the first Postcode Millions win in the Hull area.

Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “We are over the moon that the Postcode Millions has landed in Hull. It was only last December that I was here in Hull handing out a Street Prize cheque for £10,000, so it will be great to come back and hand out cheques to the total value of £2m.”

Recent individual payouts saw three people from Washington in the North East win £166,000 each.

The lottery has also raised more than £23.2m for good causes so far, including Missing People and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which have received over £1.7m and £316,000 to date respectively.

Funding from players of the lottery also supports a variety of good causes all over the country, including grass-roots projects in East Yorkshire.

“Incredible Edible Withernsea”, run by Southern Holderness Resource Centre, received more than £9,000 to develop a community vegetable garden and “Grow Your Own” project.

Players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes in their area.

There are five large draws a month and each draw costs £2, paid in advance by monthly direct debit. A total of 40p from every £2 ticket goes to good causes and all money raised stays local to the players.

All playing tickets are entered into five £10,000 Street Prizes, where every ticket in the full winning postcode wins £10,000.

Every month, one lucky postcode wins £100,000 and one lucky ticket wins the keys to a BMW 1 Series car.

Four times a year, players in one postcode area share at least £1.5m in one of the Postcode Million draws. The maximum prize per ticket is £400,000, or 10 per cent of the draw proceeds.

All prizes are awarded by ticket, so the more tickets played with, the more players could win.

The current People’s Postcode Trust funding round is open for applications, and charities and organisations have until Friday, February 22, to apply for up to £10,000 to bring a dream project to life.

It is not the only lottery to bring a slice of good luck to the region, however. Last September, Oliver Milner, 27, from Hessle, near Hull, a customer adviser at npower, won £1,944,322 on the EuroMillions. He bought six “lucky dips” – at the last minute in a Tesco garage.
