Pound jitters as talks continue

Another day of uncertainty over who would govern the UK caused jitters on the financial markets.

Sterling, which was trading at $1.50 slipped below the $1.49 mark after the emergence of formal talks between Labour and the Liberal Democrats added to uncertainty in the City.

Earlier yesterday, relief over emergency measures to prop up the euro and prevent Greece's debt crisis spreading across Europe sent London's FTSE 100 soaring more than five per cent.

The pound had been as low as $1.44 at last Friday but rallied when talks began.
