Prison for man in Louis Walsh false sex claim

A man who falsely accused X Factor judge Louis Walsh of sexual assault was sentenced to six months jail.

Unemployed dance teacher Leonard Watters pleaded guilty to making two false reports to Irish police that the pop music mogul groped him in Dublin nightspot Krystle last April.

The 24-year-old from Navan, Co Meath, was granted bail to appeal against the sentence.

His solicitor, Cahir O’Higgins, told the Dublin court Watters was a tragic figure whose life had been a litany of disasters from an early age. He was now a laughing stock, and was a pariah in his own community.

“For ever and a day, he will be known as the guy who accused Louis Walsh in the wrong,” he added.

Mr O’Higgins said Watters was not malicious but a human being in pain who had a history of self-harm.

He added: “He is a vulnerable, fragile human being.”

Bail was granted at 400 euro (£334), with 100 euro (£83.50) cash to be lodged immediately.
