Protesters attack housing cuts

Protesters from the Ings estate gathered outside Hull's Guildhall yesterday to demand answers after discovering they were no longer going to get help to move house.

The Government has pulled the plug on the Gateway housing project, which was meant to transform some of the most run down areas of the city over 15 years. Houses currently being built will be completed, but owner occupiers and tenants on the verge of moving have ben left in limbo. Tracey Whiting, from Hammersmith Close, east Hull, is due to move to a new house on December 3, but may not now get help with moving. Labour councillor Daren Hale said: "Many communities have been promised this refurbishment for years and it will be devastating for the ward I represent, Newington and St Andrew's ward, if this regeneration doesn't go ahead."
